Community InvolvementCharitable Work in the Community
Habitat for HumanityThis distinguished non-profit organization is the brainchild of former President Jimmy Carter. Since its inception, many low-income families are homeowners for the first time in their lives. Several of our employees are donating their spare time to help build our third Habitat for Humanity house right here in Wilmington for a qualified, low-income family. When the house is ready, we will also move in the family free of charge. We are honored to play a role in this happy transition. Domestic Violence Shelter & Services, Inc.We've been involved with this non-profit organization since 1998. Sometimes we help move the victims of domestic violence out of a dangerous situation. Other times we pick up and deliver donated furniture to Vintage Values thrift shops in Wilmington, and Hannah's House in Roanoke Rapids. These thrift shops are the primary source of funding for these two esteemed charitable organizations. Food BankEvery year on the Saturday before Mother's Day, you'll find one of our trucks at the Wilmington main post office loading up thousands of pounds of food that has been donated and collected at their facility. Our truck provides much-needed safe and free transport to the Food Bank. We are very happy to do our part to make sure that there is plenty of food on the shelves when needy families in our community come to the Food Bank. The Launch PadThis Wilmington organization provides half-way houses for recovering addicts and alcoholics. Frequently when we move families, they leave behind good furniture and ask us if we can do something with the items. This discarded furniture takes on a new life in the bedrooms and community areas of half-way houses. By delivering comfortable, attractive furniture to these facilities, we hope that we are also helping men and women feel more optimistic about this important transition in their lives. |
Did You Know? After Hurricane Fran, we moved everything out of a multi-unit condominium into our storage facility so that storm damage could be repaired. We then moved everything back in! |
